In his 1950 self-portrait, Juan O’Gorman presents himself as an architect and painter. His person repeated in the space of the painting is projected as multiple and divided. A multifaceted and complex artist, his approach to aesthetics pursued ideals of beauty, and, at the same time, explored violence against nature and those that emerge from history in his mural and easel painting. This conference concentrates on two aspects of Juan O'Gorman's work: on the one hand, his works and ideas around plastic integration, testimony of his humanistic dedication to public projects; on the other hand, his imaginary landscapes, complex allegories about the destiny of nature and social life.
