Anna Indych-López has spent most of her academic career working on Mexican Muralism in the United States, which has resulted in the publication of a couple of books, as well as multiple academic essays and exhibition catalogs.
This year she was invited to contribute an essay about Siqueiros to the catalogue of the exhibition Vida Americana at the Whitney Museum of American Art. The project was an opportunity to think though how US culture impacted the realist practice of an artist like Siqueiros and to rethink the histories and legacies of a broader American art.
The talk will primarily focus on two murals in Los Angeles by Siqueiros: Mitin Obrero and América Tropical, neither of which is truly extant today.
